Comuunication in vernacular/regional language is a great thing, but it is also good that in a country like India, where ther are so many multiple languages, English works as a great common denominator. Life for me in Bangalore has certainly been more comfortable/ and easier to adjust ever since i moved from Kolkata, because most people ( including local vendors, cab-wallahs, etc) can converse in the English language( perhaps this is also one of the reasons why this is such a preferred destination for a lot of people from within and outside the country). While it is important to know/appreciate one’s local langauge we should not be hung-up on it...esp nowdays in the era of globalization.

It’s difficult to know exactly what Arvind’s trying to do.

I do know that he has an aversion to all things anglo-saxon and that’s his right, but he really has it in for the anglo-saxon press, media, culture, customs spiritual beliefs etcetera.

He is referring here to an article he wrote, called something like ”Another F***** article” in which he expresses his extreme distaste for swearing. It just seems a shame he had to use an english swear word in the title though LOL! Maybe he thought it would grab people’s attention more, I don’t know.

He has also expressed his intention to write a long article about, if I’m not wrong, porn. (Indian porn in particular i think he said). Why? I don’t know.

That’s all I can tell you, I’m afraid. He just doesn’t like Westerners.

As I say, that’s his right, but it does seem a shame that he has to say so in comments on articles that are not about that particular subject....

Thanks for taking note of my observations. Sorry!! I didn’t wish to say anything related with Aneez and Michael in a comment addressed to U. However, I had to do that to make U remain in tune with “essence” and “viewpoint” reflected in your article!!! As far as other long comments, which are apparently not in league with views expressed in your comments, had become need of the hour to counteract baseless things based on absurd assumptions and perceptions. You cannot remain a mute spectator, never mind if in the process if you have to deviate from the standard mode of conversation. I like to deal issue on merit and that has always been the case whenever I have participated in debates. Here too, I wished to remain context-oriented but unfortunately some deviation acted as spoilsport. Lastly, I reacted strongly not because I am unsure about the validity of my views but because many things have been said that have no relation with the context .I hope U get my point !

Now let me in brief highlight the contradictions inherent in your observations. There are some glaring contradictions both in your article as well as in your observations .In fact, the style and approach embraced by you in your comment when viewed in totality make it very clear that you have not taken note of “viewpoint” and “essence” associated with my comment. I don’t need to categorically state those deviations in words. Even a superficial analysis of your remarks is going to reveal that deviation.

I also don’t know what Michael, Aneez , Shahwar ,Reshmi and others think of me when they are not interacting with me online, but I always respect and admire them at their back during private conversations with friends whenever they make their appearance in my thoughts. I hold you people in high esteem both as a reader and contributor. But it appears to be greater truth that we belong to different plane of thoughts and that there is always going to be difference of opinion on sensitive issues. So even if we appear to be poles apart on certain matters at a public forum, let not our differences get converted into personal hatred for each other.

Life is short and , therefore, let’s not nurture personal animosity. I don’t know whether U people have experiences of happenings inside the court but I do have as a lawyer. We miss no opportunity in quashing the arguments of each other in all possible ways but once we come out of the premises of court we are great friends again. It’s time to have the same spirit on Instablogs as well.

Let’s keep our differences intact but let not downsize stature of others via cheap remarks. Every dog has its day .We might emerge as winner because of greater command of language and greater understanding of the issue at hand but nobody can retain such winning abilities forever. Today’s winner can in future emerge as loser in some other debate. It’s all transitional and insignificant in the drama called life .So instead of recognizing each other purely as winners/losers in debates, let’s honour each others persona even as we come to intercept our great differences.

Reshmi, I agree that translation kills the charm of any language, but why do you feel that transcription will kill the charm out of a regional language or mother tongue?
