Has the present upsurge of articles in Indian Blogosphere led to a downfall in the quality of writing?

who let the blogs out
As blogging takes the Indian cyber world by storm, thanks to innovative and poignant blogging sites like BlogSpot, Instablogs and others, it is still way behind its Western counterpart. But now only, one thought keeps lurking behind my mind. Has this led to a virtual onslaught of pointless and stupid articles, without any coherence of thought, substance or meaning flooding the blogs? I am a regular blogger myself, and I wholeheartedly agree that blogs are meant to be the reflections of ones innermost musings, his or her deliberations, and reveries whatever... not necessarily be some prosaic manifestation of day to day happenings. But at the same time it should not be reduced to a “cut and paste” phenomenon! Agreed, blogs give us a sense of freedom, a unique ‘joie de vivre’ feeling where we give a vent to our pent up feelings, emotions etc…but that does not mean anybody who has an access to the net can write endless soliloquies about his daily life and expect others to give kudos to him for his writing prowess!

Most of the blogs are full of grammatical errors, with some being a word to word copy of an article that the ‘erudite’ writer has read somewhere! Some Indian blogs have been reduced to matchmaking and dating sites, with bloggers giving lewd and dubious suggestions in the form of comments.

Mercifully, things are not absolutely grim, and there are few sites which have kept a vigil against gratuitous and mindless write-ups. The internet is a storehouse of information, and the mindboggling array of articles keep us dazed and stupefied. However, there should at least be a semblance of order in this madness, and blogs should be the manifesto of some relevant articles, not just dissociated ramblings of unknown people! What do you say?

You are right rashmi. You can find low level writings on net in maximum number of blogs but it happens. News channels and news papers have faced similar problems and still facing it. You just can't restrict it but to choose what to read on net. Thats all.

Quality of writing will always be there. It is just that with so many bloggers are there nowadays that mediocrity is hiding good writings.

Quality articles must have increased with the ordinary ones. It is just that ordinary and poor writers outnumber the better writers.

As long as a blog doesn’t define itself and its target segment very clearly, that is, whether it is a commercial blog or a social blog, this problem will always exist. You can’t have bad quality in commercial blogs and similarly, you can’t expect every social blogger to be a great writer. So till this clear demarcation happens and Indian blogs start actively creating niches for themselves, i feel that this problem is bound to exist and persist.
