Wow! This is the word that escaped my mouth when I read about this calculator. In fact, I was speculating whether to put the news under technology or environment...as this latest gadget seem to fit both to the hilt. Ok, ok no more beating about the bush...I am talking about this latest calculator whose cutting edge technology seem to be powered by water! Yes, you have read it right, its water, and much more ecofriendly than the solar powered calculators which the green brigade try to use at times to show that they are conscious about the environment. The solar powered calculators, use less battery powers, but they still need batttery backups, which has to be replaced causing unwanted wastes. But with these water powered calculators there is no waste at all, and if what the makers of these calculators claim is true, then one can recharge it straight from the tap!

It functions just like any pocket calculator, but can be filled with water or any other type of electrolytic liquid. Equipped with a fuel cell, the water inside the calculator creates a chemical reaction with the zinc anode and cathode. This chemical reaction causes an electrical current, and lo and behold... one can solve all those mathematical equations! The water-powered calculator can calculate for up to a month on less than a cup of water.

The regular price of this wonder machine is not astronomical at around 20$. I fervently wish such products reach the Indian markets soon, so that we can do our wee little bit in saving wastes and carbon emissions. Whatever it may be, this “green” calculator is indeed an eye-catcher, and sure to become a cynosure of all who wants to save power.

Ya true! And surprisingly doesn’t cost the earth :). Hopefully such small but useful products become more eco friendly in the years to come.

Hi Reshmi, this is an interesting product. Though calculators don’t really consume too much power, but the use of water makes this all the more interesting.
Hope the same technology can be replicated in more products too.

Thank you Manish for dropping by. Even I found it quite intriguing, that’s why I wrote about it :).
