The unfortunate part is that Batman is hardly a kids movie, certainly not recommended for 8/9 year olds

You are right. And somehow am feeling sad that a dark comedy(if I can say so!) like Dark Knight is all set to surpass the records of a romantic saga like that of the Titanic. Though I guess, this movie will score over the other in respect of being fast paced, cinematography and what not...:(
